Let’s talk about her brother this week, Closing.
The phrase “Closing” gets a bad rap because of people who try high pressure sales tactics to get a sale.
But from my personal experience being in sales for most of my career…
Closing is simply “Collecting a Decision.”
Here’s my take on an effective sales process:
- Qualifying – asking a lot of upfront questions to see if you can help someone with your product or service
- Provide details
- Answer all their questions aka objection handling
- Asking for a decision
It’s okay if people aren’t ready to buy right now, but it’s our job to see if they are ready.
My closing question at a high ticket sales job was this:
“Are you ready to do this now or just looking for a quote?”
If they were ready to make the purchase now, they would tell me.
And if they weren’t, then they have a quote that they can come back to me when they were ready.
A lot of my customers appreciated my non-pressure sales approach.
And it came back to this one rule I learned in sales.
People will make a purchase decision when they are ready to buy, not when you’re ready to make a sale.
3 Rules of Selling
- People like to buy but don’t like feeling like they were sold
- People by for emotional reasons
- Once sold people need to justify their decision with logic
